Division 2. AUTOMATED REFUSE CARTS |
§ 48-61. Issuance and use of city refuse carts.
(a)
Initially, the city will issue an automated refuse cart to each occupied residence on each automated route at no charge. The cart is the property of the city and shall not be removed from the address if the resident should move. A cart identification number will be assigned to the resident's utility account.
(b)
The cart shall only be removed from the property by duly authorized personnel of the sanitation department.
(c)
If the cart is stolen, the resident shall report the theft to the police department and the sanitation department. After receipt of the police report, the sanitation department will replace the automated cart at minimal charge to the resident.
(d)
The sanitation department is tasked to maintain automated carts in good working condition upon notification by the customers that repairs are needed.
(e)
If one automated cart is not sufficient for the household garbage generated, additional carts may be requested from the sanitation department. The fee will be the current basic sanitation rate times the number of carts issued to each address.
(f)
Each residence must have its own garbage container. Sharing of containers by multiple residences is not permitted.
(g)
Commercial customers using automated refuse carts will not allow any other business or household to use their containers.
(h)
Abuse of city-owned containers may result in a fine.
